Run for Your Lives: Zombies invade DFW

Dallas Examiner | 6/3/2013, 10:15 a.m.

Special to The Dallas Examiner

Run for Your Lives, a 20-city, zombie-infested 5K obstacle run, will invade the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on June 1. Created by Reed Street Productions, the experience will take participants through a series of 10 to 12 man-made and natural obstacles. The obstacles will include a blood pit, a zombie-infested maze and a smokehouse. Each course is designed to test individuals’ strand, speed and teamwork.

Runners will be challenged to out run zombies in order to make it to the Safe Zone alive. Zombies will be looking for brains to roast at a good ol’ Texas barbecue. Survivors can party with their friends at the Apocalypse Party, an all-day celebration full of live music, games, food, drinks and anything else that you need to party like it’s the end of the world.

Guests can enjoy an all-American barbecue. Food options will also be available for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free diets. However those who don’t survive the run may be on the menu.

The inaugural race, which launched in Darlington, Md., in 2011, attracted more than 10,000 participants and spectators. In 2012, the race invaded 12 U.S. cities and hosted more than 100,000 participants who tested their survival skills against the zombie apocalypse.

“Run for Your Lives is excited to bring a unique physical and mental challenge to zombie-enthusiasts, fitness fanatics and first-time runners from coast-to-coast,” said Ryan Hogan, managing director of Reed Street Productions and co-creator of Run for Your Lives. “Whether you are excited to get chased by zombies, be transformed into the undead or just enjoy watching people scream like little girls while being chased, Run For Your Lives offers a little something for everyone.”

In addition, Kennedy Krieger Institute – an internationally recognized institution dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disorders and injuries of the brain –has been chosen as its official charitable partner for this year’s run.

The Dallas Fort Worth run will take place at 8975 FM 740 in South Forney. Zombie passes are sold out but spectators can watch for free. However, there is a small fee to park.
