Candidates for city attorney selected for second-round interviews

Mayor Rawlings and the Dallas City Council announced three candidates that will be invited for a second round of interviews for the appointment of Dallas city attorney. Those candidates are Warren Ernst, Russell Coleman and Angela K. Washington.
Ernst is presently working in the Dallas city attorney’s office. He began working for the city in 2003 and has served in the Chief of General Counsel Division since 2009 where he manages 30 attorneys and support staff. He also serves as lead attorney for special projects. Before he began working for the city attorney’s office, he worked in private practice, representing his clients on business matters.
Coleman currently works for the Belo Corporation, a broadcast television news station with cable channels and Internet websites across the United States. He has worked at Belo since 2003. Leading the legal department, he has served as senior vice president and general counsel since 2008. Before he began working at Belo, he was a law partner at a large law firm.
Washington worked for Walmart Stores Inc. from January 2005 to February 2012. During that time, her positions have included serving as vice president and general counsel in the areas of real estate and construction, as well as corporate affairs and government relations. She was responsible for managing various teams with as many as 45 associates. From August 1989 to June 1999 she held the positions of interim city attorney, administrative assistant city attorney and supervising assistant city attorney. She has also served in Fort Worth as a municipal court judge for three years and assistant city attorney for about a year and a half.
The candidates will be invited for a second round of interviews that will take place within the next few weeks.
