DALLAS

Dr. Beverly Mitchell-Brooks, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Dallas and North Central Texas, appeared optimistic as she reported the league’s Report to the Community at the annual meeting and luncheon held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

“Over the past four years, we faced a failing economy, record unemployment and the collapse of the housing market, and the league felt the impact,” she said. “Yet, we continued our efforts to provide relevant programs and critical services despite losing over $500,000 in funding.”

The mission of the ULGD is to provide opportunities that enable all citizens to secure economic self-reliance. Using the song Stand as a reference, she called on friends, corporate partners and funders to continue to stand with the Urban League in its aggressive fundraising projects.

In keeping with this year’s theme, “The Legacy Continues: Passing the Torch,” Dr. Myron Watkins Sr. and Frank Arredondo were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the community.
