Promise House, an organization that helps homeless, runaway and at-risk youth, will host its 16th annual Golf Classic on Monday at Bent Tree Country Club at 5201 Westgrove Drive. Registration and a catered lunch will begin at 11 a.m. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
Golfers have the unique opportunity to play 18 holes of golf on a members-only course, hand-rolled cigars and margaritas, plus specialty holes featuring samples from Tiff’s Treats and Blue Mesa Grill. On-course contests and prizes also will be held throughout the day. The day will conclude with a post-tournament reception, awards ceremony dinner and silent auction held in the club’s Oak Room.
The Golf Classic directly supports Promise House’s mission to give struggling youth the individualized support, skills, encouragement and hope to live a better life. Promise House is currently seeking additional individuals, teams and sponsors interested in participating and/or sponsoring the tournament. The Dallas/Fort Worth Free to Breathe Run/Walk will be held on Sunday at 8:15 a.m. at the Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, located at 2801 East Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Registration and check-in will begin at 6:15 a.m. The inspirational event will feature a 10k run, 5k run/walk and 1-mile walk for all fitness levels, with awards for fundraisers and top finishers, live music, food and more. All proceeds from the event support Free to Breathe, a nonprofit lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring surviving lung cancer is the expectation, not the exception, in an effort to double lung cancer survival by 2022.
