Dallas Black Dance Theatre will bring social media to the main stage in the development of this year’s world premiere by Artistic Director Bridget L. Moore during the Director’s Choice. The series will be held Nov. 3-5. Social media will be used as a tool to obtain feedback regarding performances.

“I am using social media to gain cultural perspectives and will document how it informs my choreographic choices,” Moore said. “I want to use social media because it is accessible, and I think it is a great tool to share experiences.”

Themed Expect the Unexpected, the showcase is designed to offer a unique and breathtaking visual experience – from avant-garde to contemporary.

The new performances will showcase to audience members different depictions of conquering emotional ghosts and enduring emotional storms accompanied by last season’s critically acclaimed work Uncharted Territory: Body of Evidence, which was awarded a grant by the TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund.

The show will feature theatrical pieces Tower, a contemporary rain dance complete with 22 dancers directed by choreographer and Hurricane Harvey survivor Andy Noble; How to Kill a Ghost, tackling haunting effects of holding on to something that doesn’t exist, featuring a mixture of modern, African, hip hop and jazz styles set to R&B and new age music; and Monophonic, a piece choreographed by Booker T. Washington High School alum Rebecca Troyak. The contemporary dance is a high cardio work set to opera music.

The Friday and Saturday performances will start at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday performance will began at 2:30 p.m. at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, located at 2400 Flora St. For more information and ticket registration, visit https://www.dbdt.com/tickets.
