The Leadership ISD Dallas Alumni Association held its official kickoff March 28 from at GoodWork, located at 1080 S. Good Latimer Expressway, for an evening of connection and inspiration.

Representatives provided information about the vision and goals of Leadership ISD.

The event will be followed with a recruitment breakfast April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at La Madeleine French Bakery & Café, located at 3906 Lemmon Ave., Ste. 110.

DALLAS

Two historical institutions located in the Dallas Arts District will continue its Easter tradition. For more than a decade, Dallas Black Dance Theatre has performed to the songs of the St. Paul United Methodist Church Choir during Easter Morning Celebration. The service will take place April 1 at 7 a.m. at St. Paul, located at 1816 Routh St.

All five Dallas Black Dance Theatre performing companies and ensembles will take part in the Easter service. This includes the 12 professional dancers of DBDT, the eight dancers of the semiprofessional company DBDT: Encore!, the talented youth dancers in the Dallas Black Dance Academy premier ensemble Allegro, as well as the Senior Performing Ensemble and Junior Performing Ensemble.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters will host A Cultural Commemoration: The Day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Died - 50 Years Later to honor the life and works of King. Local educators will be recognized and inducted as the 2018 Hall of Fame class of the African American Education Archives and History Program April 14 at noon at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 800 N. Main St.

Each year, the program honors retired educators and contributors to the education career field via collective nominations from individuals and various organizations.

The honorees this year are Mary Holland Bolden, Johnnie B. Brashear, Robert Earl Craft, Betty Glover, Rachel Lee McGee, Carla Ranger, Wanda MeShack Smith, Robert Ward, Claude R. Williams Sr. and the late Velma Price Smith.

Epsilon Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority will host its 17th annual “Unsung Heroes Luncheon” April 14 at noon at the Wyndham Suites-Park Central, located at 7800 Alpha Road.

The event honors men and women who have worked diligently in their respective communities giving out their time, talents and gifts. This year’s theme will be “Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.- Celebrating Those Who Dare To Care.”

The honorees are Rosa Velma Clark, Jeannette B. Davis, Jesse W. Jones, Donovan J. Lewis, Wilbert C. Rogers, Gwendolyn Brown Sneed, Shailendra Thomas and Deloris Rosaya Washington.

Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center will present its 11th Appetite for Advocacy April 20 from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, located at 400 Olive St.

The annual luncheon honors the power of education in showcasing child abuse awareness and improving the lives of abused children in Dallas County.

The event will be hosted by mother-daughter duo and DCAC chairs Katherine Mathes Bullock and Melinda Cheney Mathes with Ben Bradlee Jr. as this year’s keynote speaker.
