(The Dallas Examiner) – The City of Dallas Department of Public Works is seeking input from residents on an initiative to modernize the city’s communication kiosks with digital elements that provide an interactive platform to raise awareness of local businesses and events, encourage community engagement and enhance neighborhood safety.

The proposal would allow for the installation of interactive digital kiosks in commercial, mixed-use, retail and entertainment areas within the city’s right-of-way in high pedestrian traffic areas.

The kiosks would be equipped with SmartCity technologies and a touchscreen display, providing the community and potential advertisers with an environmentally friendly and dynamic method to share important information including public service announcements, safety alerts, public transit schedules, promotion of local businesses, job opportunities, social services, upcoming cultural events and community engagement opportunities. The kiosks will offer free Wi-Fi allowing public connectivity.

The Public Works will host two community meetings, one virtual and one in-person meeting to discuss the full proposal and receive community feedback. Speakers and questions will be asked to limit their time to under one minute.

The Webex virtual meeting will be hosted April 22 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees will be able to ask questions during the Q&A section. Register at dal.city/Kiosks.

The in-person meeting will be April 29 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dallas City Hall, Room L1 FN Auditorium, 1500 Marilla St. Attendees may park behind City Hall in metered spots or in nearby paid parking lots.
