Amidst a massive website failure and overall staunch opposition in Texas to the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama traveled to Dallas encouraging ACA volunteers at a synagogue, Temple Emanu-El. The volunteers have assisted consumers with their enrollment in the ACA through the HealthCare.gov website which has received an overwhelming amount of criticism after consumers either received error messages or were rerouted, in the middle of enrollment, to begin the process over again.

The Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition will host its 13th annual run/walk to voice the silent symptoms of ovarian cancer, commonly referred to as the silent killer in the medical community. The effort will commence Sept. 21 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Ovarian cancer is a fairly rare, but very lethal disease. It occurs when a cancerous tumor grows inside a woman’s ovary. Typically, there are no known causes and its symptoms are non-existent, until it has spread to the pelvis and abdomen, leaving most women susceptible to this deadly disease with no knowledge of its existence.

A billboard at the corner of Red Bird Lane and Highway 67 was designed to bring attention to the rising number of HIV cases in Dallas. However, it received more attention than expected. Citizens throughout Dallas expressed negative opinions about the display. But it was comments viewed as anti-gay statements made by Councilwoman Vonceil Hill, that ensued a protest.
The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America will host a free homeowner and homebuyer event Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Ft. Worth Convention Center, located at 1201 Houston St. The purpose for the event is to provide face-to-face counseling and affordable solutions for both homebuyers and homeowners. Hundreds of NACA counselors and bank representatives will be present to help owners with an unaffordable mortgage retain their property through loan modification and also assist first-time buyers in obtaining homeownership. For those planning to attend, please bring the following documents for both borrower and co-borrower: last four weeks pay stubs, last three months bank statements for all accounts, last two years W-2s, last two years federal income tax returns, most recent credit card and other loan statements, and a picture ID.
