The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, a joint initiative of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, will hold 10 free Legal Clinics for Dallas County residents. The clinics offer free legal advice and consultation in civil matters for those who qualify under Legal Aid’s income eligibility guidelines. Applicants are asked to bring proof of income, identification, legal papers, etc. with them to the clinic. All clinics begin at 5 p.m., with the exception of the Veteran’s Clinic.

Schedules and locations are as follows:

• June 1 [for veterans and their families only] at 1:30 p.m. at the VA Medical Center—SCI Center, 4500 S. Lancaster Road

• June 5, June 12 and June 26: Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, 2922 MLK Blvd.

• June 7 and June 21: Grace United Methodist Church, 4105 Junius

• June 14 and June 28: 2828 Fish Trap Road

• June 21: Salvation Army, 451 W. Avenue D, Garland

• June 20: Friendship West Baptist Church, 2020 W. Wheatland Road.

The Dallas Marathon will host its inaugural Five on the 4th event, July 4 at 8 a.m. at Klyde Warren Park, located at 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The marathon has been apart of the community for 50 years. This year will mark the first time the organization is growing to include events outside of their December Marathon weekend.

“We are excited to once again expand our program calendar and grow our presence in Dallas’ running community,” said Paul Lambert, president of the BMW Dallas Marathon. “We hope to see whole families, pets included, participating together in what’s sure to be a memorable Independence Day experience.”

The event will be filled with various activities such as 5-mile run, family bike ride, children’s races and a post-race party for participants. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.
