The National Newspaper Publishers Association Mid-Winter conference was held in January in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The NNPA is the national trade organization that represents 230 African American-owned newspapers and media companies across the nation, which makes up the Black Press of America.

The conference is held every year at different locations to provide training for NNPA publishers. Included at the conference this year were representatives from General Motors, Amerihealth, Eli Lilly, Pfizer and Wells Fargo.

An annual highlight of the conference was the 2020 NNPA Publisher Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to The Dallas Examiner’s distinguished publisher, Mollie Finch Belt. Her adult children, James C. Belt III and Dr. Melanie Belt, introduced her. Dr. Benjamin Chavis Jr., president of NNPA, and Karen Carter Richards, NNPA chairperson, presented the award.

“This is such an honor,” Mollie Belt stated. “I’ve received many awards, but there is nothing like receiving an award from your peers. The Black Press means a lot and I want to say thank you.”
