Special to The Dallas Examiner
The city of Dallas has opened two drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites at the Ellis Davis Field House at 9191 S. Polk St. and American Airlines Center, Parking Lot E at 2500 Victory Plaza. Both sites will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“The drive-through approach is to allow a safe, structured means to perform testing while maintaining separation,” said Randall Payton, Incident Commander for the testing sites. “Measures have been taken to protect the safety and health of the individuals participating and staff conducting the tests.”
With the new sites came less restrictive guidelines that life the age restrictions. The testing criteria includes those experiencing:
- Shortness of breath.
- Temperature of 99.6 or higher.
Emergency regulations issued by the mayor require labs in Dallas to report daily tests and specimen collections to the City.
“Information about our testing is vital to the public’s understanding of the fight against COVID-19, and the data is crucial to City leaders as we make difficult decisions based on the need to preserve public health, safety, and welfare,” said Mayor Eric Johnson.
As of 10 a.m. March 23, Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 24 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing to the total case count in Dallas County to 155.
“We expect more cases to become known in the days and weeks ahead as testing capacity increases,” said Mayor Johnson. “Do not be alarmed by the increase in confirmed cases, but take this coronavirus seriously and take proper precautions. COVID-19 is more lethal than the seasonal flu, and taking personal responsibility to help slow the spread will help save lives.”
