Dallas County Health and Human Services will hold school vaccinations before the back-to-school rush at six clinics Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Planning for the next school year may not be on the minds of parents or students as we are in the middle of summer, however waiting lines for immunizations are expected to spike in the coming weeks,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director. “We know from previous years the lines are much longer as we get closer to school starting.”

Texas Vaccine for Children eligible immunizations are $10 for the child’s first visit and $5 for returning patients. Waivers will be given to families in need. College students are also able to get state-required meningitis vaccinations.

Participating clinic locations include:

• DCHHS Stemmons Immunization Clinic, 2377 N. Stemmons Freeway, extended hours on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Oak Cliff Branch Immunization Clinic, 1113 E. Jefferson Blvd.

• John West Branch Immunization Clinic, 3312 N. Buckner Blvd. – Ste. 200

• Irving Branch Immunization Clinic, 440 S. Nursery Road

• North Dallas Branch Immunization Clinic, 8208 Spring Valley Road #200

• Carrollton Farmers Branch Immunization Clinic, 2774 Valwood Parkway

In-store school supplies give-a-way

MetroPCS will be giving away free school supplies at participating locations throughout Dallas until the end of August. No purchase is needed. Each family can pick up a free cinch sack that includes a backpack, pencil bag, standard ruler, pencils, pens, glue stick, eraser, folder, crayons, and a spiral notebook.

Back to School Carnival

The annual Back to School Carnival will be held from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at Exline Recreation Center, located at 2525 Pine St. Children in attendance can receive school supplies. Back-to-School Kick Back

The third Annual “Fresh” Look Good, Feel Good Back-to-School Kick Back, hosted by Rikki Burke Salon, will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 919 N. Peak St. The event will offer 40 young girls and 40 boys in grades K-6 free hair services and a backpack full of supplies. Activities will also include a cook out.
