Well, it has begun.
This administration has begun the winds of war.
The president’s ratings were dropping, plummeting, if you will. The news around the Russia/Trump connection was getting more and more intense. The president, who claimed he would win so much that people would be “tired” of winning, was failing miserably.
And so, the administration attacked Syria with missiles and dropped the Mother of All Bombs on Afghanistan.
People, Democrat and Republican, Black, White and Brown, are celebrating. This military action shows that the president is strong, and that he is “making America great again.”
Really? Since this administration has come to power, the attention paid to foreign policy has been enormous, while attention paid to domestic policy has been frightfully sparse. This administration is poised to disrupt the lives of millions of Americans, many of whom will be Trump supporters, in the areas of health care, education, the environment, voting rights and criminal justice.
That’s just for starters.
The words of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev are eerily true. About a month into the Trump presidency, Gorbachev said, “It feels like the world is getting ready for war.”
Neither the Congress nor the administration seem very much concerned about what war will mean for the masses, like they don’t worry about health care.
They’ve got health care, good health care, and their children won’t be going to anyone’s war.
But the masses, those who are downtrodden, already forgotten, manipulated and taken advantage of by the system, those with the fewest resources to survive in this capitalistic world, will be hit hardest.
If there is war, “the least of these” will willingly sign up, believing that if they fight for this country, this country will vouch for and help them.
But that’s not our history. It’s not the history of any country. Leaders of countries want power. CEOs of corporations want profit. If the masses can help both entities, then the common-sense thing to do is to use them, literally.
But after the masses sacrifice their families and sometimes their lives, they find out that they were merely objects to be used. They are not more respected after they have fought for this country than they were before.
The administration seems to be purposely antagonizing America’s enemies. He seems to have no regard at all for the “carnage” his language and erratic behavior will likely cause.
I guess he will call that “winning,” i.e., making “America great again.”
