Is America deferring to crybabies?

It hit me that a broad swath of this country is nothing less than a group of crybabies, spoiled by their belief in their racial superiority and therefore, their sense of entitlement.

We all saw it during the worst days of the pandemic. Grown men and women were “crying” by complaining about being made to wear masks. They cried because they had to be socially distant. They cried when companies put them out because they refused to wear the masks, which were necessary to save lives.

They went further, defying orders to not gather in large groups, defiantly refusing to wear the masks, and in essence giving public health officials the finger. They charged state capitol buildings – with guns – because they wanted to take down governors who dared mandate that the state comply with public health orders.

And they were led in their defiance by a crybaby president.

It is fascinating, if troubling, to watch people emerge from the cracks of our society filled with bitterness and resentment, ready to tear down the government, because they feel like they are not getting their way. The only part of the United States Constitution they honor is the Second Amendment. They shout about wanting to preserve their constitutional rights while they simultaneously work to prevent others from being able to exercise theirs. They are attacking anything that they believe is getting in their way of being, simply, White. They are lying unabashedly and committing more violent acts than normal because it is their way of crying. They don’t seem to realize or to know that unless all of us have all of our constitutional rights, none of us do. They likewise don’t seem to understand that until all of us are free, none of us are.

We’ve seen spoiled children. They cry and pout and whine at the slightest hint that they will not get their way. We see them in elementary, middle and high school, and we see them on college campuses. They like to throw their weight around. By the time they hit college they understand their privileged status, and they arrogantly display it. It’s not just students, either. It’s professors and teachers and judges and attorneys and doctors and financiers – people who cherish their status and have bought into the myth of the superiority of White people in general and wealthy White people in particular.

As we, this nation, begin to come out of the very difficult year we’ve had due to COVID-19, I find that I want those who were obstructionists and militants during this time where people suffered and died from this disease to be quiet. They have not earned the right to celebrate, because they did all they could do to derail efforts to keep us all safe. The current president has gotten legislation passed which will help all Americans – even the spoiled ones – get on their feet, a far cry from the attempts of the former president to help only “red” states, but I cannot shake the feeling that they do not deserve the help.

It is too late to help them. Spoiled kids are just that – spoiled. If they grow up having everything given to them, not having to work very hard – if at all – for their economic status, they will always look for ways to get something for nothing, and in this country, that “something” is too often the color of their skin.

The media still gives their hero a lot of coverage, which is frustrating. It is far-fetched, I know, but I wish the spoiled crybabies would just stick to themselves and leave the rest of us who are working as hard as we can to stay afloat, even while we give thanks to God for having made it through this pandemic.

Let the crybabies cry by themselves.
