Special to The Dallas Examiner

Dallas Black Dance Theatre will present its Dancing Beyond Borders series, with highlights of their season and works by international and national choreographers on March 4 and March 10 in Richardson and Fort Worth.

“We always strive to make our programs accessible to the entire Metroplex,” explained DBDT Associate Artistic Director Melissa Young. “Dancing Beyond Borders is the perfect way to reach out to new audiences and continue to expand our visibility. The bonus of the evening is being able to indulge in the superb artistry of both DBDT and DBDT II, making for an unforgettable night of dance.”

Award-winning choreographer Bridget L. Moore created “Unearthed” that reflects the collective power of the community. This world premiere is set to the music of Wynton Marsalis, James Horner and Sweet Honey in the Rock, Nina Simone and José James. She is currently a visiting professor at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea. “Furtherance,” choreographed by former Alvin Ailey dancer Kirven Douthit-Boyd, will take the audience on a journey from anguish to bliss amid the backdrop of a Japanese taiko drum musical score with additional sound effects of Asian gongs and bells.

“Testament,” by DBDT Allegro Ensemble Director and former DBDT dancer Katricia Eaglin, abstractly depicts five Biblical themes using a blend of modern and contemporary dance set to contemporary classical music.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre II will perform “Opaque,” choreographed by DBDT II Artistic Director Nycole Ray. The dance, set to alternative music, is a dynamic, high-energy work that explores the lack of transparency in human interactions.

DBDT II will also perform “The Art of Waiting,” choreographed by Ballet Hispanico Dos Rehearsal Director Nicholas Villeneuve. This light-hearted work is accompanied by the sounds of various Hispanic musical artists.

The March 4 performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson.

The March 10 performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the W. E. Scott Theatre, 3505 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth.
