The fifth annual Backpacks 4 Brainiacs Back to School Supply Rally and Concert, presented by Hip Hop 4 Hope and Operation Community Care, will be held Aug. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. at Southwest Center Mall – lower level, located at 3662 W. Camp Wisdom Road.
Items are still needed, including backpacks, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, 24-count crayons, glue sticks or bottles, markers, colored pencils, erasers and new or gently used uniforms. Dallas Area Rapid Transit will experience several off-peak frequency enhancements Aug.14. Customers should plan to obtain new timetables before bus schedule changes take place.
The changes are designed to improve connectivity and on-time performance in an effort to improve the customer experience and follow an extensive outreach process including social media, rider outreach events, public meetings, stakeholder interviews and participation of advisory and technical committees. More extensive service changes are planned for March 2018, with public meetings on proposed changes planned for September.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters will be presenting its inaugural Riverfront Jazz Festival during the Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 1 through Sept. 3, co-chaired by Multi-Grammy Award winner Erykah Badu, with jazz greats Will Downing and Najee at the Texas Horse Park, located at 811 Pemberton Hill Road.
After-hours festival entertainment with food, drinks, and live music will be held in the Sheraton Hotel hotel lobby, located at 400 N. Olive St., and several other local hotels.
