The Summer Food Service Program brings free meals to children and youth 18 years and younger at participating sites throughout Dallas. To participate, residents can log on to the new Dallas ISD Summer Meal Locator tool at http://fcns.dallasisd.org/summer-sites-lookup, arrive at the location for breakfast and/or lunch where each child can receive a healthy meal. Registration is not necessary.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided by Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services in conjunction with the Texas Department of Agriculture through the Summer Food Service Program. The summer meals will be part of the district’s Summer Harvest program of Texas-grown produce from local farms.
To find the meal service locations, times and dates for the closest participating school, residents can use the meal locator tool and type in their ZIP code, call 211 or text FOODTX to 877-877.
The State Fair of Texas released its 2017 Creative Arts Competition Handbook for all local residents searching for various art contests.
The fair will provide 12 different art departments with 1,100 categories for its pre-fair contests and daily competitions during the fair. Contest departments will range from ceramics and dolls to photography and sewing but not limited to.
Amateurs and professionals contestants of all ages can participate by submitting their entry forms and fees via mail or hand deliver items to the Creative Arts Building Aug. 11 through Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Only one entry per person may be submitted into each category. Registration will end July 21.
Entries will be judged the following weeks.
The State Fair will also hold its annual Chili Cook-off, BBQ Cook-off, and Three-Pot Dutch Oven Cook-Off Sept. 24 with a new Ribeye Steak category being added to the BBQ Cook-off.
A drawing will be held June 23 to choose the contestants for six additional on-site cooking contests during the fair.
