Special to The Dallas Examiner
You can still get health insurance for the new year on the federal health insurance marketplace, but the open enrollment period for 2023 coverage ends on Sunday, Jan. 15.
Created by the Affordable Care Act, the Marketplace allows you to search for health coverage options and choose from plans available in your area. It will also tell you if you or your family members qualify for coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The best source for information about the Marketplace is www.healthcare.gov. The website is available 24/7 and provides information on how the Marketplace works, its benefits and key deadlines. You can also call 1-800-318-2596 to speak with trained customer service representatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If you need further help, Parkland Health has certified application counselors available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday in Parkland’s Financial Services Office located at 2021 Medical District Drive, on the street level of the Parkland Tower Garage.
“We can help individuals with the website and with the 800 number,” said Bethanne Keating, Parkland’s director of Patient Access. “We do not help them pick a plan, but we can tell them which plans Parkland is contracted with.”
In partnership with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Parkland has also trained health care navigators for ACA enrollment at community partners CitySquare, Community Council of Greater Dallas, Los Barrios Unidos Health Clinic and PrismHealth North Texas, among others.
If you miss the 2023 open enrollment period and do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you will have to wait until open enrollment begins for 2024. Additional information on exemptions is available at www.healthcare.gov.
