Our Vote is Our Voice launches

 

Over 60 cars assembled long with Dallas organizers and community leaders, including Our Vote is Our Voice, NAACP Dallas National Pan-Hellenic Council, Heaven 97 KHVN, DFW Urban League Young Professionals and Lit Young Adult Bible Study, partnered to hosted “Pack the Polls Car Parade” a caravan designed to GOTV in disenfranchised communities July 14.

 

During the event, participants had decorated their cars with signs using GOTV phrases to prepare to ride through communities to encourage them to make voting a part of their daily schedule for July Texas Primary Run-Offs. The parade route covered three major polling sites, Skyline Branch Library and Martin Luther King Jr. Center, concluding at the Oak Cliff Sub-Courthouse.

 

“This event was great and needed in the community to empower people to vote,” said Sen. Royce West, who participated in the event.

 

Other participants were Councilman Casey Thomas, Councilwoman Candice Quarles, GISD School Board Trustee Linda Griffin and newly elected Texas State Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

 

“This is a fun way to empower our community and reshape the narrative around why we vote in every election; it’s up to us to bring hope back to the vote” said Reuben Lael, Our Vote is Our Voice organizer.
