Youth football league complex to open Southern Dallas

Empty Southern Dallas Field will soon be home to the brand-new Woodland Park Football Complex, a youth football league complex, located at 2115 W. Wheatland Road. The complex will be available for games, training and community events.

The Dallas Park and Recreation Department held a ribbon-cutting Wednesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new athletic complex, featuring the Carter High School Drumline and football team. City and community leaders as well as young athlete were invited to participate.

Among the speakers, was Lorie Blair, Dallas City Council member for District 8; Tennell Atkins, former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem; JR Huerta, vice president of Dallas Park and Recreation board of directors; Bo Slaughter, Dallas Park and Recreation board member for District 8; and John D. Jenkins, director of Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

City of Dallas bond program provided $2.4 million for the facility that will span seven acres. The complex will feature a regulation, football field, 58 parking spaces, energy and efficient lighting, irrigated landscaping and modern furnishings.

The complex is an investment in providing quality and accessible recreational spaces while strengthening youth development in Southern Dallas, according to the Dallas Parks.

District 3 National Night Out

The annual District 3 National Night Out Against Crime, a police and community partnership, will be held Oct. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Park in the Woods, located at 6800 Mountain Creek Parkway. The event, hosted by Councilman Zarin Gracey of Dallas City Council District 3 and Ana Hammond, Dallas Parks and Recreation board of directors District 3, will give residents:

  1. An opportunity to meet neighbors and build community.
  2. Learn how to keep the neighborhood safe.
  3. Build positive relationships with the local police department and first responders.

Medicare Info & Updates

A Medicare Info & Updates Class will be held Oct. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. at Mountain View Campus – Room B164, located at 4849 W. Illinois Ave. Presented by United Healthcare, the class is free and open to the public.

City of Dallas warns residents about parking ticket scam

The City of Dallas is warning residents about a new scam targeting parking customers across the country. Fraudulent text messages claiming unpaid parking fines have been circulating, using local phone numbers to appear legitimate. Residents are advised not to click any links or provide personal information.

If someone receives a text message claiming you owe a parking fine:

  • Do not click any links in the text message.
  • Do not share any personal or payment information.
  • Verify the fine through our official website or contact our parking office directly at 214-948-5346 or TRNParkingServices@dallas.gov.
