Young people 19 and younger reported over 30 incidents of fraud and scams – a total of $55M in losses, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Tips for renting or buying used books and school supplies:

  • Be cautious of duplicate school sites and email offers advertising deals that seem too good to be true.
  • Be sure you’re buying from verified retailers.
  • Avoid responding to unsolicited emails.
  • Only use official payment channels.
  • Double check second-hand material.
  • Research if it’s an unfamiliar website.
  • Steer clear of private sellers.
