African Americans are 60% more likely than non-Hispanic White adults to be diagnosed with diabetes, and the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities hosted a webinar with Dr. O. Kenrik Duru to provide guidance on obtaining better treatment options for minority communities, especially the Black community.

Diane Xavier received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Texas A&M University in 2003. She has been a journalist for over 20 years covering everything from news, sports, politics and health. She has been working with The Dallas Examiner since 2013 as a reporter, covering the unique storylines of the African American community in Dallas. She also currently works as the Production Manager for The Guadalupe Radio Network in North Texas on KATH 910 AM. She has been an avid sports fan since she was 12 years old and enjoys watching sports, listening to music, reading and spirituality.
